Whoever said drinking alcohol can be harmful to your health must have never tried good red wine! (From Napa Valley no less!) Kieu Hoang Winery has delicious red wine, from top end vineyards, with a focus on health benefits and a price point that keeps it competitive.
Mr. Hoang is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, originally from Vietnam. He has focused his career research in areas of wellness that improve quality of life. Studying red wine, in particular, he found that good healthy cells did not just exist in human plasma but also in red wine. His findings and passion for wellness led him to travel to world famous Napa Valley and work with experts, including renowned winemaker Charles Hendricks to establish the Kieu Hoang Winery.
The winery; tasting room and vineyards are located in the Carneros AVA, the former location of Michael Mondavi Family Estates. The wines are predominantly red, but they throw into the mix a couple whites too! I had the recent pleasure of tasting the 2012 Kieu Hoang People’s Wine Red Blend. A fantastic, approachable red wine that’s good on its own or with an array of food options and just a genuine decent table red. The 2012 is a blend of 40% Zinfandel, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah. It’s soft on the nose. The palate is smooth with dark red fruits and medium acidity which in turn is balanced with the now softer tannins. The Zinfandel fruit shines forward and the Syrah leaves it’s mark on the structure. All in all a very drinkable wine for all sorts of red wine lovers. “People’s Wine”.
